Gaining a Dentistry Qualification:

Dentistry is a degree standard qualification in the United Kingdom. On leaving college or school you would study for 5 years to gain a Bachelor of Dental Surgery Degree, commonly known as a BDS.

Entry requirements vary from Dental School to Universities but typically you would need at least 3 A levels with good grades, B and above. Preference given to Science students, eg. Biology, Chemistry, Physics.

It is UCAS who deals with applications to study Dentistry in the United Kingdom. They accept applications from UK Nationals and Foreign Nationals.

If you wish to start studying Dentistry for a chosen year you would start late summer, in August. The application process would mean you would have to apply the year before, typically by the middle of october at the latest.You can visit the UCAS site direct here.

Please note many Schools & Universities would require certain other tests to be passed along with standard A level qualifications. These may include:

  1. Clinical Aptitude Tests.
  2. Personal Health Screening & Immunisation Checks.
  3. IELTS Test for Non-UK Nationals.

As mentioned non-UK nationals are warmly welcomed to study Dentistry in the UK. They will have to have the same equivalent qualifications and pass the same tests. They will of course have to qualify for study or work permits also and pass the IELTS Test as mentioned above. More information here: IELTS

There are also Specialist Dental Recruitment Agencies who are highly experienced in helping overseas Dental Professionals through the necessary steps in coming to the UK to work in the dentistry field. Currently the NHS is understaffed in the area of Dentistry and THE uk welcomes overseas Dentist's to live and work in the UK.
